Competition Team

The Tahoe Endurance Comp Team is designed for athletes ages 13-19 who want to pursue high-level training and competition in Nordic skiing. The program welcomes athletes from a wide range of backgrounds and experience levels who share a common goal: to work hard, improve, and have fun.

Through elite-level coaching, individualized training plans, goal setting, and opportunities for regional, national, and international competition and training, athletes are supported through a long-term development process both on and off the snow. Team training takes place up to 5 days per week and includes rollerskiing, skiing, running, mountain biking, bounding, strength training, and more.

The coaching staff also works with athletes to balance multiple sports throughout the year, including cross country running and other seasonal sports. Many Tahoe Endurance athletes have found success competing across multiple sports while continuing to develop as Nordic skiers.

Beyond physical training, the Comp program emphasizes character development, accountability, and building confidence through sport. Coaches work closely with athletes throughout the year with individual goal-setting meetings and ongoing mentorship to help each athlete progress at their own pace and reach their full potential.

At its core, the Comp Team is about more than competition. It is about bringing out the best in every athlete who joins the program, helping them pursue their goals, and finding the joy in the sport of Nordic skiing.

Tahoe Endurance also offers an out of area Satellite program for athletes not based in the Tahoe/Truckee area. Athletes on this program get full training plans, individualized coaching support, goal setting, etc., as well as access to training camps and race support for all local and national races the team competes in.

Tough work pays off.

Tahoe Endurance has quickly become a nationally recognized Nordic ski program. In just three years, the program has produced 33 All-American performances, 5 National Championship titles, and 7 athletes selected to National and US Ski Team trips — including athletes representing the United States at Junior World Championships and the U18 Scando Cup. These accomplishments reflect the strong culture, dedication, and athlete development within the program.

At the core of Tahoe Endurance Comp Team is a love for movement, adventure, and enjoyment in the mountains. While the coaches are committed to helping athletes pursue high-level goals if that is what drives them, the greater goal is to help them build a lifelong relationship with skiing, training, and mountain sports. We care deeply about teaching athletes not only how to compete and pursue excellence, but also how to enjoy the process and find fulfillment in the journey itself. We strive to have happy, healthy athletes who genuinely love being outdoors and love what they are doing.

Long-term development is not linear.

One of the foundational principles of Tahoe Endurance is helping athletes progress through training at a rate that is appropriate for them as individuals. While we operate as a team, we recognize there is no single training plan that works for everyone. Athletes are constantly navigating growth, school demands, sickness, stress, injury, and the many physical, mental, and emotional variables that affect day-to-day training and recovery. Our coaching staff works closely with athletes both individually and within the team environment to adapt training plans when needed. Every athlete receives individualized guidance and support throughout the year, whether their goals involve Nordic skiing alone or balancing multiple sports. We remain flexible based on what we are seeing from the athlete and from the team as a whole, understanding when to push, when to adjust, and when to prioritize recovery and balance.

We also take an intentional individual approach with every athlete in the program. Our coaches sit down one-on-one with each athlete to understand their story, goals, motivations, strengths, and areas they want to improve. These conversations continue throughout the year because goals, priorities, life circumstances, and athletic development naturally evolve over time. This process helps us better understand each athlete as a person, not just as a competitor.

Athletes always come first within our program.

We work with athletes across a wide range of goals and experience levels. Some athletes join with years of Nordic experience and competitive goals, while others join with little background in competitive skiing. Over the years, we have had athletes enter into the sport with, gradually fall in love with skiing and the process of training, and eventually grow into some of the top athletes in the country. At the same time, many athletes simply want to improve, challenge themselves, stay active, and enjoy being part of a team environment.

Our program is intentionally year-round, but we are equally committed to developing well-rounded, multi-sport athletes. We strongly believe participation in other sports positively contributes to long-term athletic development, enjoyment, and performance. We work collaboratively with athletes and families to help navigate the challenges of balancing multiple sports. We aim to help build individualized training plans, strength plans, return-to-sport progressions, and seasonal schedules around those goals. Many members of Tahoe Endurance successfully pursue and excel in other sports alongside skiing, and over the years we have helped athletes navigate what it means to be multi-sport competitors while continuing to develop within Nordic skiing.

Individualized support is fundamental to our programs.

Another important aspect of our program is understanding that practices themselves are only one piece of athlete development. Team training sessions are intended to be enjoyable opportunities for athletes to meet portions of their training plan together, build friendships, improve technique, and create a positive team environment. However, much of the value of the program also comes from the individualized support athletes receive outside of practice, including training plan adjustments, race preparation, ski selection, equipment guidance, strength planning, communication, and ongoing mentorship throughout the year.

Technical development is also a major focus within Tahoe Endurance. We work hard to help athletes build strong ski technique while recognizing that every athlete learns differently, develops at their own pace, and moves uniquely based on how their body is built and functions. There is no single technique model that perfectly applies to every athlete. Our goal is to help athletes learn how to move efficiently and powerfully across the ground, whether on skis or running, in a way that best suits their individual biomechanics, strengths, and athletic tendencies.

Detail oriented.

Tahoe Endurance also strives to provide a highly organized and detail-oriented environment. You can find a draft of our 2026–27 season schedule here. We plan training camps, races, transportation, housing, and team support months in advance to help create the best possible experience for athletes and families. Our training plans are also structured well ahead of time so we can thoughtfully build progression, recovery, and high-volume training periods throughout the year.

Accessibility to sport.

Tahoe Endurance is also deeply committed to making the sport accessible. We have consistently worked to provide financial assistance and support for athletes and families when needed, and we never want financial barriers to prevent athletes from pursuing opportunities within the sport.

Education and experience.

Our coaching staff brings extensive experience from multiple levels of the sport. Coaches have worked throughout the U.S. Ski Team development pipeline, staffed and led U.S. Ski Team trips, and supported athletes competing at the World Cup level. Our coaches are continually looking for ways to improve their coaching, communication, and understanding of athlete development. The focus is not simply on short-term junior success, but on creating a healthy pathway for long-term development, sustained enjoyment of sport, and a lifelong love of mountain adventures.

In addition, our coaches have spent significant time compiling athlete and parent resources to help families navigate the unique challenges of being an endurance athlete, including the nuances of Nordic racing, training, recovery, and long-term opportunities within the sport.

Tahoe Endurance is focused on developing lifelong lovers of the outdoors, movement, and mountain sports.
